About Me

We stand in solidarity with Occupy Wall Street and the rest of the 99% throughout our country and the world. We stand in protest of the greed and corruption of our government and the 1% who bankroll them. We are striving to affect change locally by raising awareness through marches, sit-ins, and other non-violent tactics, as well as through social outreach.

"What's Happening Today (10/20/11)

Hoping those from the group that went to DC yesterday had a safe day.
Occupy Martinsburg is growing. I believe that more people support it, but in ways that are private. This just from talking to people. Occupy Together is starting to grow as well in numbers as it reached 213.
Heard overnight that the Occupy New Hampshire group were served summons yesterday for "failure to disperse" as an act of civil disobedience.
Isn't it funny that the Government fails to act in accordance with the Constitution, but inflicts it onto the citizens in this country.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
I also found a very good documentary that is worth watching. I saw this awhile back, and it replayed last night. This video documents the birth of the Global Economic Crisis.
In the very beginning of the video is this statement made by Wall St.:
"LET'S HOPE WE ARE ALL WEALTHY AND RETIRED BY THE TIME THIS HOUSE OF CARDS FALTERS."- Internet e-Mail Wall St. 12/15/2006
The documentary is called:The House of Cards.
It is about an hour and a half long. After watching it again last night on CNBC I noticed the following: That in the first seven minutes of watching the video, there are protesters on Wall St. as early as the making of this documentary.
I got carried away earlier and at one point had vented a few personal political views of my own. I did remove them from here on the basis that my own political views are that of my own and are not shared by others. No one asked me to remove them, but I made a decision to.
A few good reads I found for today is
A Letter to the #Occup(iers): The principle of Non-contradiction
From the Occupy Martinsburg Facebook Group:
Marlene Azoulai says: "The Democratic party, through organizations such as MoveOn.org is trying to co-opt the Movement. This will not happen. I used to support MoveOn and no longer do. Actually, I am very disappointed in them. The Rebuild The American Dream organization is connected with the Democratic party and Moveon is taking donations, saying that they are connected to the Occupation. They are not. The two-party system no longer works. It is broken beyond being able to be fixed. That is what the Occupation is about. The creation of a new system of government, which operates on the basis of consensus and an awareness of diversity, human needs and justice. Too big a vision? It's your choice. Stay with the old that doesn't work anymore or take the leap of faith into working together to create a new paradigm.
This is an excellent article by Chris Hedges on the subject of the co-opting of the Movement."

Very nice statement Marlene and very good article (link)below. Thanks for sharing with the group. I personally think that alot of people are blinded as to what is truly happening in this country, in our State and in our community.

Today's events as they happen:
New petitions added today: Want a Real Economic Stimulus and Jobs Plan? Forgive Student Loan Debt!
Get Big Corporation $$$ Out of Politics
Stop the Evictions of OWS
If you come across the OWS Working Group List of Demands
According to the OWS Official Website this is not being supported by OWS, as they are saying that there is no official list of demands. I saw something today where they even have a petition going listing these demands.
